To book a consultation in the NHS you need to see your GP who can refer you providing the surgery is covered by the NHS. There are guidelines available for which treatments are available on the NHS and these have been locally agreed with the Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) who allocate finances within the NHS.
Examples of conditions/ treatments covered by the NHS:
- Breast reconstruction after surgery for breast cancer
- Management of skin cancer including removal of tumour and reconstruction
- Reconstruction of the head and neck
- Correctional surgery for facial asymmetry after injury to the facial nerve
- Hand surgery (both acute and chronic functional problems)
- Scar revision after burn injury
- Some correctional surgery after weight loss
Many other conditions are also covered, please consult your GP for further advice.
Once you have seen your GP, you will either be referred on an urgent basis (2 week rule in the case of suspected skin cancer) or via the “choose and book” pathway. This will usually allow you some choice over the location and timing of your treatment. Available sites for consultation with Mr Jones include the James Cook University Hospital (JCUH) in Middlesbrough, the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton (FHN) or the Nuffield Hospital in Norton (NH). No fees are payable within the NHS irrespective of the hospital site selected.
Once a referral has been made, communication can be made through Mr Jones’ NHS secretary, Mrs Cathy Booth, on 01642 854116.
