Breast surgery is a major part of plastic surgery with a range of different approaches available to alter breast appearance. Breast can be made large or smaller, be uplifted or have asymmetry corrected.
Patients who wish to increase the size of their breasts can do so by using synthetic implants or, in some cases, by transferring fat from other body sites using liposuction techniques (lipomodelling).
Patients who have concerns with breasts that are too large and heavy can have them reduced in weight and volume with breast reshaping techniques. This can have functional benefits for many patients and improve not only aesthetic appearance, but reduce back or neck discomfort and help prevent bra straps digging in.
Patients who have developmental abnormalities of the breast resulting in poor shape or asymmetry may benefit from correctional surgery to either increase the smaller breast of reduce the larger breast. It may be that an expandable implant is used in the first instance then replaced with a permanent implant.
Patients who have had surgery the remove the breast (mastectomy) can have the breast mound reconstructed using a number of different techniques.
